This now makes back-to-back years in which we have lost a pool team with the very first conference championship game played. The favorite, (7) Florida Gulf Coast was easily beat by (8) Queens in the Atlantic Sun first round last night, giving Galpin the very first loss of the pool. Now that everyone is done laughing, every single Atlantic Sun team is playing tonight, which means no one is safe from a loss later today. Below we will preview the Atlantic Sun quarterfinals, the Horizon League first round, and the opening round action in the Patriot League.
But first, here are the current standings with the FGCU loss, along with major Big Sky conference seeding changes that are now finalized. If you see that you moved down in the rankings without suffering a loss, that either means your Big Sky team moved to a 2-seed, or others below you had their 2-seed team plummet in the seeding, turning bonus point eligible. We're looking at you Weber State!
The Atlantic Sun is where we're going to start since all 8 teams are playing tonight. The way the matchups are set we could make it to the end of the night where everyone loses, and is out of this conference, or nobody loses, and on to the semifinals. Over 50% of our picks are on (3) Lipscomb, but (1) Eastern Kentucky is the statistical favorite to win it all, and none of these teams are double digit favorites in the games tonight. This is a fun and interesting conference for our pool!
The Horizon League is another interesting one for our pool as our picks are scattered across 5 teams, including multiple people on (8) Purdue Fort Wayne. 6 teams are in action tonight as the first round tips off, putting 3 people at risk of a loss.
Our final conference tipping off tonight is the Patriot League, this is also our most uninteresting conference for our pool. 80% of our picks are on (1) Colgate, and we don't have anyone with first round action tonight. If you're flipping around trying to catch all the conference tournament games tonight, the Patriot League is one where you don't need to spend much time. I don't even have a good graphic to post for this league as their bracket is ugly looking.
