The evening games were much less exciting from a pool perspective than our afternoon games, but we're still seeing some pool losses. The Big South wrapped up first with a few very exciting games. (2) UNC Asheville pulled out a victory against (7) Charleston Southern with a late three pointer, while (3) Gardner-Webb hit a few last second free throws to take care of (6) Presbyterian by 1 point. Due to the late heroics from these teams, nobody in our pool suffered a loss. The Big South moves to the semifinals tomorrow.
The next conference to finish was the Missouri Valley, where we saw wins by favorites (2) Drake and (3) Bradley. These games were blowouts, and not that much fun to watch. I feel we were spoiled after the madness of these first 4 days, but I'm disappointed in Arch Madness this year.
The night ended with Ohio Valley games, one blowout, and one super fun game. The early evening game brought us (1) Little Rock absolutely rocking (4) Western Illinois in a snoozefest of a game. 2 players from our pool did lose with Western Illinois going down. The second Ohio Valley game was fantastic, as we saw a back-and-forth game where (2) UT Martin fell to (3) Morehead State. We now have our very first championship game matchup on Saturday thanks to this conference, where it will be (1) Little Rock vs. (3) Morehead State. Let's Goooooooo! ๐
Here are the standings with all of Friday's pool action wrapped up, and the top players are starting to separate from the bottom players. We do have a long way to go, but if the top players start converting opportunities to wins this weekend, we'll see things get out of hand quickly. I plan to post a blog entry Saturday late morning to preview the day, including the Ohio Valley conference championship game, and I'll be making updates to the standings all day.
